Described by Acoustic Guitar Magazine as "one of the most gifted and versatile fingerstyle guitarists on the scene," Laurence Juber grew up in North London and took up the guitar at age 11, inspired by the explosive British pop scene of the early '60s.
As a young working musician in London, England in the 1970s, LJ got an extraordinary, life-changing break when Paul McCartney picked him to become Wings’ lead guitarist. Juber spent three years recording and touring with the band. During that time he won a Best Rock Instrumental GRAMMY® for the track "Rockestra" from the Wings album "Back To The Egg."
After Wings disbanded, Juber moved to Los Angeles and embarked on a career as a solo artist, composer and arranger, soon developing a reputation as a world-class guitar virtuoso. He has released 14 critically acclaimed solo albums, including "LJ Plays the Beatles," "Guitarist," "One Wing" and "PCH." His solo CD, "Pop Goes Guitar," includes the arrangement of "Stand By Me" that was heard nationally in the De Beers 'Diamonds Are Forever' commercial. His new release 'Wooden Horses', is loaded with groove-driven originals shaded in jazz, blues, rock and folk flavors.
Juber's DVD "Guitar Noir" was DVD Etc. magazine's top pick for surround-sound 5.1 audio and earned a 2005 CEA "Demmy" award for sonic excellence.
As a studio and touring musician Laurence Juber has worked with such artists as George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Barry Manilow and Al Stewart. His guitar playing is featured on the academy -ward- winning scores to the movies "Dirty Dancing," "Pocahonatas," and "Good Will Hunting", as well as many hit TV shows including "Home Improvement" and "Seventh Heaven." His solo guitar arrangement of "The Pink Panther Theme" is featured on the GRAMMY-winning collection "Henry Mancini-Pink Guitar."
Folios and DVDs of his compositions and arrangements are published by Alfred and Hal Leonard Publications. The venerable C.F. Martin Company currently offers an ‘LJ’ Signature model guitar and GHS Strings market Juber's Signature guitar strings.
Laurence was voted "Guitarist of the Year" by the readers of Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine and named one of the top acoustic guitar players of all time by Acoustic Guitar Magazine. A dynamic, entertaining performer and an accomplished clinician, LJ brings his passion for the guitar to venues around the world, creating a multifaceted performance that belies the use of only one instrument. Currently Juber is a columnist for Guitar World Acoustic magazine.
"Juber is a master of acoustic finger style, but with less of the trick-guitar mishmash that seems obligatory among the high-octane pickers. He has a fluid style that shifts gears through simultaneous jazzy chording, leads, and bass lines, while weaving in and out of musical thoughts faster than a Formula One racer." - San Diego Reader
"He gloriously articulates the melodies and never succumbs to show-off playing. But the notes spin out of the songs with such finesse and musical agility, it's hard to believe he has only 10 fingers and six strings. Juber has made a rare acoustic guitar record with bark and bite. His playing is just short of sleight of hand and, like all magicians, he makes it seem effortless." - San Francisco Chronicle
