Steve Katz: Blood, Sweat, and My Rock-n-Roll Years Tour

Sunday April 5, 2015 @ 7:00 PM

“As a kid growing up in the 60’s, there were lots of musical icons. The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, etc., plus some terrific folk and blues musicians. As a member of a couple of garage bands in high school and college I’d be remiss if I didn’t admit to having songs by The Blues Project and Blood, Sweat and Tears in the set lists. Last night I had the pleasure of seeing Steve Katz founding member of both The Blues Project and B, S and T play a solo acoustic show at Cafe Lena in Saratoga. When we got there, Steve was sitting in the corner reading a book about the history of Cafe Lena. We chatted for maybe 10-15 minutes and he mentioned that he lived in Niskayuna for about 5 years as a kid, then moved to Long Island. I grew up on Long Island as a kid and moved to Upstate New York where I finished high school. Steve took the stage and played for almost two hours. There was no intermission. Between songs, he talked about his musical biography, his influences and acquaintances and friends. He talked about taking guitar lessons from Dave Van Ronk, one of the founding fathers of the folk music scene in Greenwich Village in the 60’s, while Bob Dylan slept on the couch. The show was interspersed with acoustic covers of his own songs as well as traditional blues and Appalachian folk songs. We left with that good feeling you have when you spend an evening listing to live music and an autographed copy of “Played A Little Fiddle”, by Stefan Grossman, Danny Kalb and Steve Katz.” – Robert Wilcox – Hope, NY – 5/9/2014
