Bill Payne of Little Feat

For the past four decades, Bill Payne has spent most of his time on the road, in studios and working with rock n’ roll hall of famers. He’s one of rock’s most talented keyboardists, a legitimate legend among peers. In addition to great songs with Little Feat: Oh Atlanta, Time Loves A Hero, Tripe Face Boogie, Truck Stop Girl, he has written twenty songs with Robert Hunter. A founding member of Little Feat, he’s appeared on hundreds of studio albums & toured with James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Bob Seger, Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Jimmy Buffett, and the Doobie Brothers. He is currently on tour with Leftover Salmon, where he is a full-fledged member, is still a member of Little Feat, and is developing a path with Larry Campbell.

Bill is now combining all of that experience and putting it into his solo shows.

“I was a late bloomer. I didn’t begin doing solo work until a few years ago when I was sixty-three! Having all the songs with Robert Hunter, my son, Evan, and others gave me the confidence to finally allow people to hear me as an individual. I love the format of songs and telling stories.”

Bill is an artistic gambler who is willing, in fact obliged, to take the untraveled path and to live and thrive in the gray area that divides black and white. Bill’s presence in rock has been defined by his talent, resourcefulness, longevity and penchant for exploration. He is an artist. It’s what he’s always been about.

One of Bill’s quotes:

“Art is the ultimate embrace of our being human, with all its repercussions. But it also allows us to transcend the familiar terrain and investigate worlds, relationships, experiences we can only dream of, and live, though fleetingly, as the gods of our own realm. Magic indeed.”
