Bridge Street's 7th Anniversary Rock and Roll Party featuring RONNIE SPECTOR with RANDOM CONCEPT

Saturday October 1, 2016 @ 8:00 PM

41 Bridge Street invites you to join us as we celebrate our 7th Anniversary with a sensational Rock and Roll Party on Saturday, October 1st at 8 pm! Headlining this fabulous evening is the incomparable RONNIE SPECTOR (The Ronettes), with opening act RANDOM CONCEPT featuring the legendary Gary Higgins of "Red Hash" fame!

As lead singer of the ultimate girl group The Ronettes, rock icon Ronnie Spector recorded such timeless hits as the Grammy Award–winning “Walking in the Rain,” “Do I Love You,” “Baby I Love You,” “The Best Part of Breaking Up,” “I Can Hear Music,” and the international Number One smash “Be My Baby.” Never one to rest on her laurels, Ronnie has enjoyed a busy 2016: she recently returned from her UK/EU tour, culmi-nating in a Glastonbury Festival performance that garnered a five–star review in The Telegraph (UK)—that set can now be viewed on MTV Live, Palladia and BBC America Television. The tour was in support of English Heart (2016), the British Invasion–themed album that is Ronnie’s first new full–length album in a decade. Featuring songs originated by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Dave Clark Five, the Bee Gees, and others, English Heart commemorates the Ronettes’ groundbreaking U.K. tour of January 1964. In keeping with this anniversary theme, this summer marked the 30th anniversary of Ronnie’s duet with Eddie Money, “Take Me Home Tonight,” which reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and hung on the chart for 23 weeks; the song was nominated for a Grammy Award and became a heavy–rotation video on MTV.

Falls Village, Connecticut’s own psych–folk enigma Gary Higgins will open up the party with Random Concept. Gary and his schoolmates, Dave Beaujon and Jake Bell along with Simeon Coxe (Silver Apples) and Ronnie Bailey teamed up in 1965 to form the rock and roll outfit, Random Concept. The group soon emerged as a prominent local draw, adding keyboard player Terry Fenton and finding its footing as the house band at the Rumpus Room. Random Concept soon began playing gigs in prominent NYC clubs and moved to the now infamous Greenwich Village “Hotel Albert” living along side such Rock legends as The Lovin Spoonful, Paul Butterfield Blues Band and the Blues Magoos. The band eventually returned to Connecticut to redefine and fine tune it’s music. The Random Concept’s sound grew increasingly psychedelic, and in 1972 members of Random Concept and Higgins’ other more folk oriented group, Wooden Wheel, came together to cut “Red Hash” (Nufusmoon), a hauntingly beautiful song cycle recorded in under 40 hours. “Red Hash” was very well-received—Entertainment Weekly named “Red Hash” the 6th highest rated album of 1973, ranked among Led Zeppelin’s “Houses of the Holy,” The Grateful Dead’s “Wake of the Flood,” and Bob Dylan’s “Dylan”—but it was not widely distributed. But by the late 90s “Red Hash” had obtained cult status. A new generation of psych-folkies and vinyl collectors praised the calming, yet captivating sound of the album. Original copy prices soared to lofty heights and the album has become a much sought after collector item. Red Hash was reissued in 2005 by Chicago based Drag City records which has rekindled world wide sales and acclaim. Music from the album was featured on the now syndicated CBS show “How I Met Your Mother”. Present day Random Concept consists of 3 of the 4 original band members and have managed to remain together for over 50 years! They are joined by guitarist Dave Vanderbogart who has now also been with the band for more than 35 years.
